Microfilm Scanners

ScanPro 1000

There are currently 5 ScanPro scanners located at the BYUFHL. They are top of the line in terms of quality and quickness in scanning microfilm and microfiche. These scanners actually take a photograph of the microfilm you are looking at, so each image takes less than 3 seconds to save.

ST200

ScanPro 1000

The BYUFHL library has two of these scanners available. The are a few years old, but they have valuable aspects. They have the capability of scanning microcards and microprint, and they can scan an image at a very high quality.

Pictures, Documents, and Slide Scanners

Microtek 9800XL

Microtek 9800XL

This scanner has the largest scanning area of all the scanners at the BYUFHL. It can scan images or documents up to 11x17 inches in size.
Microtek i900

Microtek i900

This scanner is very similar to the 9800XL except this version is smaller, but with the added ability to scan transparent slides and negatives. The slide scanning is relatively slow, but very high quality.
HP

HP

This scanner can do almost everything the other scanners can. It can scan slides and film, but only one at a time, not in batches, and not in as high a quality. It can scan pictures, but only one at a time, and not in quite as high a quality as the 9800XL. This scanner is best to use for scanning documents. It has a document feeder that allows multiple pages to be scanned quickly. You can also use the OCR for certain documents, which will translate the text on the page into editable text.
